When did life start to feel so hard to manage?
Do you feel stressed most of the day, like you can’t remember the last time you felt calm, content, or in control? You might be on edge, bracing for something bad to happen, or exhausted from just getting through the day. Maybe it’s hard to enjoy life when a past experience still lingers in your system. And when you feel this way, relationships can feel harder, self-criticism gets louder, and overthinking takes over.
Individual therapy helps you build new patterns, so life feels more manageable and fully yours again.

What is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is a one-on-one space to explore what’s been weighing on you, and to work toward feeling more grounded, connected, and alive in your own life. At Wildhaven Therapy, individual therapy for adults is trauma-informed, collaborative, and experiential. We don’t just focus on symptom management. We look at why things feel hard, how your nervous system learned to cope, and what’s needed now for real change.
Our approach integrates trauma-focused therapy methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, somatic therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, experiential, relational, and attachment-focused approaches. We also offer therapy intensives if you’d like a deeper approach over a shorter period. While you will learn practical skills, we also believe you are the expert on you. Therapy is a partnership, and sessions are active, engaged, and rooted in what truly works for your life.
Here, all your wild parts are welcomed, not judged, and gently guided back into harmony.

Questions About Individual Therapy
How is trauma-informed therapy different from traditional talk therapy?
Talking matters, but we don’t focus on venting alone. Our trauma-informed approach is experiential and interactive, helping you work with your nervous system, emotions, and patterns in real time; not just analyze them. We prioritize safety, pacing, and collaboration so change happens in a way your system can actually sustain.
What kinds of issues do people come to individual therapy for?
Many adults come to individual therapy for anxiety, stress and burnout, trauma, relationship patterns, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional numbness, grief, self-criticism, or feeling “stuck” despite insight, among many other concerns. If you’re going through any of these struggles or something else, reachng out for a free 20-minute consultation is a good first step.
What if I’ve already done a lot of personal growth or therapy?
Many of our clients have. Individual therapy can help you move beyond insight into deeper, lasting change, especially when old patterns keep resurfacing, even when you’re doing “all the right things.”
Do I need to have experienced trauma to benefit from trauma-informed therapy?
No. Trauma-informed therapy can be supportive for anyone who feels stuck, anxious, emotionally reactive, overwhelmed, or disconnected, even if you don’t identify with the word “trauma.” Our therapists will start by understanding your story, experiences, and struggles, and slowly work through it all with you.
How do I get started with therapy in Oakland?
The first step is a free 20-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. From there, we’ll talk through your goals and what kind of support feels right for you. What Individual Therapy Can Change at the Root
Many clients notice early shifts within the first few months, such as feeling more grounded, aware, or less reactive. Deeper, lasting change unfolds over time as your nervous system learns that it no longer has to stay on high alert.
Over time, you may notice:
- Relief from feeling constantly on edge, with your nervous system settling more easily
- More energy for daily life, with more access to joy and motivation
- Less self-criticism and overthinking, and more self-trust in your choices
- Healthier, more connected relationships, with clearer communication and boundaries
- Healthier, more connected relationships, with clearer communication and boundaries
Life may still have challenges, but after therapy, you’ll be better resourced to meet them with confidence.
